Privacy Policy

Batch is a learning app that helps kids practice money, math, and other life skills through quick, playful card games. We built Batch for our own children first, and we take privacy — especially children's privacy — seriously. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect and why.

The short version

You can use Batch with no account at all — progress just stays on the device. If a parent chooses to create an account (to join the leaderboard or play across devices), we collect only what's needed to run the app. We never show ads, and we never sell or share your family's personal information with advertisers.

Playing without an account

By default, Batch works fully on the device with no sign-in. Lesson progress, points, and streaks are stored locally in the browser only. We don't receive any of it.

If a parent creates an account

Accounts are optional and are set up by a parent or guardian. When an account is created, we collect:

Parent email address — from email sign-up or Google sign-in, used to secure the account and (only if the parent opts in) to send occasional progress reminders.
Each child's username and avatar — chosen by the parent or child. A real name is not required, and we ask that you don't use one, because usernames appear on the leaderboard.
Learning activity — lessons completed, points (XP), streaks, and badges, so progress is saved and the tournament leaderboard can be shown.

How we use information

To save and sync a child's progress across the family's devices.
To show the points leaderboard and run the seasonal tournament.
To send a parent reminder emails — only if the parent turns this on, and they can turn it off anytime.
To keep the service secure and working.

What we never do

No advertising and no ad tracking inside Batch.
No selling, renting, or sharing of personal information with advertisers or data brokers.
No collecting more than we need to run the app.

Children's privacy

Batch is intended for children, and accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian, who consents at sign-up. Usernames shown on the leaderboard are chosen to avoid identifying a child. A parent can review, change, or delete their child's profile and data at any time — either instantly in the app (Profile → For grown-ups → "Delete family data", which permanently removes the account, all players and all cloud progress) or by contacting us at the address below, and we will respond promptly.

Direct notice to parents (COPPA)

For parents & guardians

This section is the direct notice required by the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The operator of Batch is Batch (John Haynes), reachable at johnrichardhaynes@gmail.com.

What we collect from a child: a username and avatar (chosen at setup — we ask that it not be a real name) and learning activity (lessons completed, points, streaks, badges). We do not collect a child's real name, photo, location, contact information, or voice recordings, and there is no free-text chat or messaging in Batch.
Consent: accounts can only be created by a parent or guardian, and creating one is how consent is given. Without an account, nothing leaves the device and no notice is triggered.
Use and disclosure: a child's information is used only to run the app (saving progress, showing the leaderboard). We do not disclose it to third parties except our hosting provider, and never for advertising.
No over-collection: we do not condition a child's participation on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary to play.
Your rights: you can review your child's information, have it deleted, and refuse to permit further collection at any time — instantly in the app (Profile → For grown-ups → "Delete family data") or by emailing us. We will verify you are the account parent and respond promptly.

How long we keep data (retention policy)

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose it was collected — running the app and saving your family's progress — and never longer. We do not keep children's personal information indefinitely, and we do not use it for any secondary purpose.
Account data (parent email, child usernames/avatars, learning activity) is kept while the account is active. When you delete the account in-app, it is removed immediately; deletion requests by email are completed within 30 days.
Local-only play is stored only on your device, under your control — clearing the browser's site data removes it.
Routine security logs kept by our hosting provider expire automatically on a short schedule.

Where data is stored

Account data is stored with our backend provider (Supabase) using industry-standard security. Sign-in is protected, and passwords are never stored by us in plain text.

Your choices

Use Batch without an account (no data leaves the device).
Opt out of reminder emails at any time from the app or the unsubscribe link in any email.
Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your family's data by emailing us.
